7 December

History is one of my favorite subjects.  I love looking in the past and seeing how civilizations rose to power and how they fell from this power.   I also love examining the scientific achievements that were discovered during their rise and how these advances helped them become great.  Looking historically, many civilizations become dominant because of an advance in weaponry, mobility, and defense.  This advance only last as long as the other side did not learn from that advancement. I believe that the major reason that these ancient civilizations fell from power is that the leaders eventually thought they were gods and could do whatever they felt like doing.

Looking at the Bible, strictly as a historical book, you learn how since Cain killed Abel there has been violence in what is now the middle east.  How some of the ancient civilizations were descendants of the sons of Noah (Genesis 10).  How the rise of the Roman Empire and their greatly improved transit system provided a means for the Christian faith to be spread all over the known world.  I also enjoy studying:

We can find great peace in knowing that God always keeps His promises and that believing in God, He makes promises that we know he keeps, a plan for the world, and a purpose for all of us.  During this Advent Season, we are not only celebrating the birth of Christ, but also are looking forward to His return.  Come Lord Jesus.

Shop with Scrip

Did you know, that over the last 12 months, MLA has sold over $7600 in scrip cards which has earned $500 for field trips, gifts and other TEAM expenditures.  Five hundred dollars doesn’t seem like a great amount of money.  We buy gift cards through Great Lakes Scrip Center (shop with scrip) at a percentage less and then sell the cards for the value listed.  For example, when we purchase $1000 in scrip from HyVee, we only pay $970 for the cards.  The value is still $1000 but we make a total of $30.  I know in my house, we go grocery shopping every week, why not use HyVee, Walmart, and/or Target scrip cards to pay for these groceries and help raise money for MLA.  There are over 700 gift cards available and can be found at shopwithscrip.com.  More scrip information to come.

  Absences and Tardies

Starting the third quarter, 10 January 2018, we are going to be enforcing tardies and absences.  The school day begins at 8:00 and if the student is not in the classroom by 8:01 they will be counted as tardy.

“One of the most valuable life skills a student can make is taking the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. This skill can easily be accomplished, and will transfer as a valuable asset for the future. One of the most important times of the school day is the morning. This is the time when key school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day. Please help support your children in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life.” Handbook pg. 14

“Excessive absences will result in a consultation with parents, teachers, and the principal, and may result in a student not being allowed to move on to his/her next grade. This will be determined by the principal after consultation with teachers and parents.”  Handbook pg. 13
